“The Bushnell AR Optics Drop Zone 223 BDC Reticle Riflescope offers riflemen an extremely efficient variable powered scope to un-tap the true potential of the 223 Remington round.”
The Bushnell AR Optics Drop Zone 223 BDC Reticle Riflescope is a variable powered rifle scope that offers excellent value to the shooter and has many features found only on more expensive scopes
I had read about the scope in a press release and contacted Bushnell for a sample to test and evaluate as it offered many features not found at this price point with the stellar reputation of an American scope manufacturer behind it.
This new line of AR Optics from Bushnell shows how the company is in tune with what its customers want and provides all the desirable features such as multi coated optics, a bullet drop compensator and rugged target tubes in this 1” diameter scope.
Build Quality:
The Bushnell AR Optics Drop Zone 223 BDC Reticle Riflescope with Target Turrets and Side Parallax, 4.5-18x 40mm is a solidly built scope that is built to withstand the rigors of firing the 223 Remington/ 5.56 NATO round.
Reticle – Drop Zone BDC
The reticle is a surprisingly intuitive and easy to read bullet drop compensator (BDC) that allows the shooter to accurately call their shots in 100 yard increments out to 500 yards when using bullets in the 55 or 62 grain range of weight.
Glass Quality
The glass used in the Bushnell AR Optics Drop Zone 223 BDC Reticle Riflescope with Target Turrets is surprisingly clear for a scope at this price point.
Magnification
The Bushnell AR Optics Drop Zone 223 BDC Reticle Riflescope with Target Turrets and Side Parallax offers variable magnification in the 4.5 to 18 power range.
Pros
This scope is inexpensive and is calibrated for the two most popular 223 Remington/5.56 NATO loads, the 55 grain and 62 grain rounds.
Ditching the classic Mil Dot reticle and a traditional hunting reticle, the bullet drop compensator allows the shooter to move up the scale in 100-yard increments out to 500 yards when it is dialed in.
The target turrets utilize a patented return to zero adjustment system which makes mounting the scope and bore sighting it an easy task without having to use shims inside the rings. Simply return each of the turrets to zero with an Allen wrench when that part is over.
Cons
The only real issue I took with the Bushnell AR Optics Drop Zone 223 BDC Reticle Riflescope with Target Turrets and Side Parallax, 4.5-18x 40mm was at it was a bit difficult to mount properly with the mount that I used and the rifle’s Picatinny rail. This was not a simple “plug and play” option like many other scopes, this took almost an hour to set it properly in its rings and on the rifle for bore sighting because I wanted to maintain the correct eye relief.
Last Thoughts
Advances in technology and skilled overseas labor make for a lot of value to be packed inside the modern rifle scope. Bushnell appears to be at the forefront of this movement by building quality optics at an affordable price. Gone forever are the days when the rule of thumb was to spend 3 times the price of your rifle on a reliable scope with the AR Optics line.
