“Incorporating a laser range finder into a high end optic is something that every scope manufacturer should have brought to the table long ago. Burris does it in a manner that is efficient and effective.”
The Eliminator Laser Scope is a true next generation rifle scope from Burris that incorporates a powerful laser range finder into a variable powered scope. The integrated mount keeps a lower sighting plane over the bore than a traditional scope using rings. This scope is ideal for long range hunters and varmint hunters who need to make shots at unknown ranges without the use of a separate and expensive laser range finder (it is capable of determining ranges out to 1000 yards). The scope has potential tactical applications as a designated marksman or sharpshooter scope in the future with a different type of reticle.
The mount may be problematic for older rifles that do not utilize a picatinny rail or cannot have such a base easily mounted on the receiver of the rifle. Burris is making conversion mounts, but at present these can be difficult to locate.
The Burris Eliminator Laser Scope is a true game changer for long range shooting. As technology improves and the demand for these scopes increases shooters and hunters can hope to see newer mounting options, reticles, greater magnification, extended ranges and perhaps an onboard bullet drop compensator for specific loads. This is a blueprint for the scopes of the future.
The scope is built to the exacting specifications of Burris’ higher end sporting and tactical optics. Burris rates this scope to handle cartridges as powerful as the 50 BMG round.
Reticle – Burris X-38
The Burris Eliminator Laser Scope uses Burris’ X-38 reticle, which is very similar to a traditional duplex type of reticle. The laser rangefinder reports the actual distance to the target in yards at the 12 o’clock position in the shooter’s sight picture. Hopefully a Mil Dot type reticle will be available in the future for tactical applications against moving targets as the laser should take the guesswork out of using the range finding attributes of the Mil Dot.
When a target is acquired, the center of the reticle lights up like a red dot sight and is visible for 90 seconds. This is extremely advantageous in low light conditions but makes general use that much easier as well.
The glass used in the Burris Eliminator Laser Scope is of the highest quality and clarity used on the market today.
The Burris Eliminator Laser Scope offers a variable magnification range from 4 X to 12 X. The scope includes ballistic charts and almost 20 pages of settings for various calibers from 17 HMR through 50 BMG, encompassing the entire range of rimfire, centerfire, shotgun and muzzle loading calibers available on today’s commercial market.
As if the on board rangefinder were not enough of a bonus, Burris included a remote activation switch to toggle the rangefinder on and off without touching the scope. The remote switch can be added anywhere on the forearm of the rifle or the butt stock to minimize movement that might scare away potential game or alert animals to the presence of the shooter.
The integral mount makes the scope easy to mount on rifles that utilize a Picatinny style rail system on the upper receiver.
As well as the integral mount for the Burris Eliminator Laser Scope works with rifles topped with a Picatinny rail, this limitation can prevent it from being used on more traditional rifles that do not have the ability to accept their proprietary mount. This adds more to the price and the difficulty in finding a suitable conversion mount.
